Dead-end

I feel like I'm in total dead-end in my life. I don't know what I want, I don't have motivation for anything, especially school, I have no idea what I should do with my life. Well I know what I should do: finish school, get a degree and get a job. *Sigh*....so much easier said than done. Especially when considering that the field of work I'm supposed to be graduating is anything but interesting to me.

Don't stop don't stop!Oh well, let's move to a happier subject. I'm going to get this cast off my wrist tomorrow! Hopefully that is...I'm scared that they'll tell me that it's still not completely fixed or something horrible like that...fingers crossed. And I have an appointment to the hair dresser's on Friday. I'm super stoked about that. I'm finally getting rid of this dreadful root growth and getting a decent haircut! Yey...I'm going to be pretty again :) Kinda-sorta.......

I miss my blond under-hair-thingies...they were dyed black last time I had my hair dyed and I don't know if my hairdresser would think dying them blond again is such a great idea. I also miss my long hair and I wish my hair would grow faster. Too often I find myself looking at old SPs where I have long and perfect hair. I am getting proper bangs again too, like in this photo. I wish it was Friday already!

I know, I'm so vein...but hey! Try not to be after you've gone through six weeks without being able to do your own hair the way you'd like to! Making a simple ponytail has been completely impossible till these last two weeks and even now it's quite painful with the cast on my wrist.

So yeah. I can't wait to have my arm back and my car back (six weeks without driving.....horrible! I've started to remember why I hate using buses so  much...) and have pretty hair again....*sigh*

And, finally, here's a Christmas song for you:

December 4th & 5th - Sylvian joululaulu & River

I forgot about this last night for I was so damn tired the whole day (too much to drink fun on Friday night). So a double post today.

SYLVIAN JOULULAULU
(SYLVIA'S CHRISTMAS SONG)

This is one of the sad songs again. It was composed by Karl Collan and lyrics are a translation from Zacharias Topelius' poem, Sylvias hälsning från Sicilien (1853). The lyrics tell a story of a Blackcap (Sylvia atricapilla) who has been captured down in Sicily and he longs for his home in Finland.

This time I'm going to re-post the metal version of this song, because I couldn't find anything better.

Antony Parviainen - Sylvian joululaulu

RIVER

I first heard this performed by Allison Crowe and I fell in love. This is originally a Joni Mitchell song, as I'm sure most of you are aware. Not much to say about this, so let the music speak for itself.

December 3rd - Bells Of New York City

JOSH GROBAN - BELLS OF NEW YORK CITY

I'm a big fan of Josh Groban and I just heard this song a few days ago. I don't know for sure is it an actual Christmas song, though. I think it is. I don't know if it's Groban's original either, but I don't care. It's great and it has a very sad sound to it.

December 2nd - Varpunen jouluaamuna

There is nothing like Finnish melancholy when it comes to metal music and Christmas songs. And when you combine those two together, you really have something magical. Something unique, something that is so Finnish that you can't find it anywhere else in the world. When you compare Finnish Raskasta Joulua (Heavy Christmas) albums to We Wish You A Metal Xmas album, for example, you can immediately hear what I'm talking about. I have that latter album too and I tell you...it's pure shit.
Oh well, now the tonight's song.

VARPUNEN JOULUAAMUNA
(A SPARROW ON A CHRISTMAS MORNING)

Oh how lame that sounds in English...Anyways. This is another very tragic Christmas song. It was composed by Otto Kotilainen and the Finnish translation of the lyrics is based on a poem Sparven om julmorgonen (1859) by Zacharias Topelius. It's about a girl feeding a sparrow who turns out to be her dead brother's spirit at the end of the song. Topelius' son had died young and it inspired him to write the poem.

I'm not going to re-post Marco Hietala's metal version of this song, although I love it above all other versions. You can find it in here

December 1st - Konsta Jylhän Joululaulu

I'm going to post a Christmas song every day till it's Christmas. So 24 songs coming up. I'll probably post loads of Finnish songs, so sorry for my foreign readers if not understanding the lyrics bother you. I just love the melancholic Finnish Christmas songs.

KONSTA JYLHÄN JOULULAULU
(THE CHRISTMAS SONG BY KONSTA JYLHÄ)

I think this is one of the most amazing and touching Christmas songs ever written.
And J-P Leppäluoto (Charon, Harmaja, Northern Kings) performs it so well. I can't believe I haven't realized this before last night.
The lyrics (written by Paul Holm aka Paavo Helistö) tell a story about a little child taking a candle to his/her mother's grave on Christmas. Even if one couldn't understand the lyrics, I think the heart-breaking melody conveys the message perfectly. Especially in the guitar solo.

The album version

P.S. I changed the layout again. I didn't feel that the green suited with December, so I needed something better. :)
