Beauty ennen-jälkeen

Kuten luvattua, tein nyt ihan perus beauty-kuvan tiimoilta ennen-jälkeen-kuvasarjan. Minun naamani sijaan saatte onneksi katsella Heidiä, joka uhrasi kasvonsa käyttööni. 

Valaistuksena käytettiin ns. simpukkavalaistusta (kokeilin tätä ensimmäistä kertaa), eli ihan perus pihtivaloa, jossa meillä oli salama läpiampuvan sateenvarjon kera suoraan yläviistosta, ja alapuolella Heidi piteli suurta hopeista heijastinta.

Näitähän voisi työstää vaikka maailman tappiin asti, ja tässäkin olisin voinut vielä mm. hiuksia siistiä, jos vaan olisi kärsivällisyys riittänyt. Mutta, koska kärsivällisyys ei ihan aina kuulu hyveisiini, keskityin tässä kuvassa enimmäkseen kasvoihin ja eritoten ihoon.

Ihon retusoinnissa työkulku menee yleensä suurin piirtein seuraavasti (käytössä PS CS6): Ensin putsaan suuremmat finnit ja muut "häiriötekijät" joko Spot Healing Brush Toolilla tai Healing Brush Toolilla. Luomet ja muut pysyvät ihon yksityiskohdat jätän yleensä rauhaan, ellei muuta ole erikseen sovittu mallin kanssa. Heidi julkesi kuitenkin tulla kuvattavaksi ilman silmille pomppaavaa aknenaamaa, niin tästä kuvasta poistin luometkin (ne hyvin harvat ja hyvin pienet) ihan vaan poistamisen ilosta. 

Seuraavaksi siloitan Surface blurrilla oikeastaan lähestulkoon kaikki yksityiskohdat pois, minkä jälkeen palautan ihon tekstuuria hallitusti High pass filtterillä ja maskilla. Tälle tekniikalle on olemassa joku hieno nimikin, mutten juuri nyt muista sitä. 

Muutoin käsittelyyn kuuluu sitten vielä mm. dodge & burnia Curvesilla, useita High pass filttereitä ja kontrasti- ja värikikkailuja.

Valtaosa viimeviikosta vierähti taas Heidin luona Vaasassa. Kuten aina, reissu oli hyvin kuvauspainotteinen, ja lauantaina kävimme muun muassa moikkaamassa Ponia. Herra on ollut kesälomailemassa Silverleaf Ranchilla ystävänsä Pocon kanssa, ja koska teemaan sopivat tamineet tallilta löytyivat, niin lähdettiin kuvaamaan vähän western-henkisiä kuvia. 
Tässä ensimmäinen satsi tästä setistä. Lisää tulee myöhemmin. :)

Bad Romance

Sunnuntai-iltana minä ja koirani matkasimme Heidin luo Vaasaan ns. hermolomaviikolle. Rentoutumista ja stressitöntä kuvaamista hyvässä seurassa - mikäpä olisikaan mukavampi tapa viettää lomaa. 

Maanantaina suuntasimme studiolle, ja minä pääsin taas harjoittelemaan studiovalojen kanssa pelailua. Tarkoituksena oli taas ottaa yhden valon kuvia, ja mukaan otin osaan kuvista myös korkovalon kaveriksi. Omasta mielestäni onnistuin valaistuksessa yli odotusten.

Olen jo pitkään halunnut ottaa kuvia aina vaan vähäpukeisemmista malleista, mutta niin, että niissä olisi joku juju/idea/joku tekijä X, joka erottaisi ne edes vähän semmoisista perusnäteistä nude-kuvista. En tietenkään ole keksimässä pyörää uudelleen, vaan haluaisin pyrkiä tekemään juttuja ja kuvia, jotka ovat minulle itselleni uusia ja erilaisia.

Heidi came for a visit from Vaasa again, and our regular team went out and built a studio to take some b&w shots of Heidi and Sape. Those two are seriously two of the most gorgeous people ever! As always, we had loads of fun and I'm super pleased with the outcome. :)

Queen Ravenna

"I shall give this wretched world the queen it deserves."

Last Saturday I got up at 6 am and started getting ready and packing. Around 9 am I started the car and headed for Nokia to pick up Sanni, and then be begun our 3-hour-roadtrip to Vaasa. A couple of months ago Sanni suggested that we'd turn her into the queen Ravenna from Snow White and The Huntsman, and this was our goal for the weekend. It was fun driving to Vaasa with someone for once. Usually I'm alone and the drive feels so much longer. 

We got to Vaasa around noon, and Heidi took us to check out the location for the shoot. After that I did Sanni's make up and hair and Heidi graciously borrowed her clothes for the outfit. I was supposed to make the feather collar, but that idea had crashed and burned back at home. I had already given up and getting used to the idea that she wouldn't have the collar, when Heidi showed us her little black angel wings that were in fact perfect for the job. 

It seems to have become some sort of a tradition that in every photoshoot there has to be problems with the flashes. Before the shoot was over, a volcano had erupted inside Heidi's head and spit the smoke out of her ears, and I had almost fallen into silent despair when the rim light in the camera right went off only when its highness wanted to. But after all this we managed to get the shots we needed and wanted, and we may still have some of our mental health left to ruin in shoots to come too.

The best of the last few shoots

I'm gonna be lazy now and instead of posting all the photos of all the shoots I've done these past few weeks, I'm going to post the best shots from each shoot and link to the whole sets in my gallery site. Click the images to see the whole sets! :)

I find it quite baffling that people are willing to travel over hundred kilometers to have their photos taken by me (with the TFCD principle). Eerika was one of such people. She came from Seinäjoki to spend her weekend in Tampere and to do a photoshoot with me.

This image ended up being something totally different than what I had planned. I wanted a proper photoshop project and that I got. After many hours and many deep breaths, this is what I came up with.

Then I had an extempore photoshoot with a friend of mine, Priscilla, and her tiny little chihuahua, Tirppa. I got to train my makeup skills on her, and we ended up taking shots with more natural look and also with something little bit wilder.

Two weeks ago I had the luxury to have my dear Heidi here again and she wanted a new "normal looking" profile photo for Facebook. I got to play a makeup artist with her too, and as it was the "dress in pink" -day (to show appreciation to the breast cancer survivors and the people who battle with it), we went all pink.

Last but definitely not the least, I had another model travel for a photoshoot. Krista came from Vantaa and we had a wonderful day. She wanted something more natural for her portfolio, so we went to the beach and took these cold-day-at-the-beach kind of photos. Then I wanted to do something wilder, and as the Halloween was right around the corner, we decided to go with the Dark Lady look. I also had my wonderful assistant and friend, Pasi, with me and he helped me to play with flashes for the first time.

Behind the scenes -teaser

Two weeks ago I had the immense pleasure of having the lovely Heidi spend the weekend with me here in Tampere. I don't think it would be possible for us not to make magic happen when we're together, so naturally that's what we did this time as well.

We had a wonderful day with an assorted bunch of very...hmm...interesting people. The fun was inevitable. ;)

Thanks for the awesome day to Heidi, Sape, Pasi & Sofia! I have a feeling this won't be the last one of these...

Heidi & Sape

Back when I was planning the practice shoots for couples' photography, Heidi and I came up with this idea about her and some 'co-star' in gothic love photos. Sape - who I'd met in the Jesus photoshoot - was a perfect "leading man", not only because I knew those two would look SO good together, but I knew they'd also get along very well - and so they did.
