Edellisen postauksen noitakuvan jälkeen kuvasimme Rahilista myös beauty-kuvia, joihin Minna loihti kauniit värikkäät meikit. Vaikka melankolinen ihminen olenkin, ja sitä myös kuvissani tuon enempivähempi esille, ei silti aina tarvitse olla niin tuimin ilmein kamerankaan edessä. 

Pääsin myös "kuokkimaan" Heidin kuvauksiin, ja nappasin oman versioni tästä upeasta "Warrior Princessistä", joka myös meikkitaiteilijanamme tuona päivänä toimi.

Eräänä synkkänä yönä töitä tehdessäni mieleeni pamahti kuvaidea, joka aluksi tuntui täysin mahdottomalta. En kuitenkaan sivuuttanut ajatusta, koska tiesin kokemuksesta, että aika harvoin kuvaideat ovat lopulta mahdottomia. Työyö meni mukavasti kuvaa ja sen valaistusta ym. tarvittavia tekijöitä miettiessä, ja lopulta minulla olikin jo suunnitelma oikein hyvällä mallilla.

Upea Rahil suostui tulemaan malliksi kuvaan, Minna tuli tekemään meikit ja kampauksen, ja Heidi auttoi muuttamaan valaistus- ja kuvaussuunnitelmat sanoista teoiksi. Kuva koostui lopulta viidestä eri kuvasta kevyen photarijumpan päätteeksi. Taustalle laitoin Phlearn-tutoriaalista lataamiani tekstuureja.

Last Saturday I got up at 6 am and started getting ready and packing. Around 9 am I started the car and headed for Nokia to pick up Sanni, and then be begun our 3-hour-roadtrip to Vaasa. A couple of months ago Sanni suggested that we'd turn her into the queen Ravenna from Snow White and The Huntsman, and this was our goal for the weekend. It was fun driving to Vaasa with someone for once. Usually I'm alone and the drive feels so much longer. 

We got to Vaasa around noon, and Heidi took us to check out the location for the shoot. After that I did Sanni's make up and hair and Heidi graciously borrowed her clothes for the outfit. I was supposed to make the feather collar, but that idea had crashed and burned back at home. I had already given up and getting used to the idea that she wouldn't have the collar, when Heidi showed us her little black angel wings that were in fact perfect for the job. 

It seems to have become some sort of a tradition that in every photoshoot there has to be problems with the flashes. Before the shoot was over, a volcano had erupted inside Heidi's head and spit the smoke out of her ears, and I had almost fallen into silent despair when the rim light in the camera right went off only when its highness wanted to. But after all this we managed to get the shots we needed and wanted, and we may still have some of our mental health left to ruin in shoots to come too.

I took a little weekend break from reality and traveled to Vaasa again on Friday. This time we spent a little less time photographing than we have before, and instead worked on a funny video project (more about that coming soon). Yesterday morning we ventured out for a quick shoot, which resulted in the photo above. It was my second try at the Brenizer method and I'm really starting to like it. This image was made out of 13 separate frames stitched into one. This doll series will probably continue with a third "doll" in the near future.

Friday night's silliness and my first taste of the studio where Heidi makes magic happen. (And yes, it is me ;))

While I was in Vaasa, I had the honor and pleasure to meet one of my favorite bloggers, Poni. He reports about his adventures with other horse friends and of course with his human, Heidi, in his blog (in Finnish). You can go and check out the blog (and more photos) here: Ponin Boxi

I got to shoot the riding photos (and the previous studio photos) with Heidi's Canon 70-200 2.8L and this time around its weight didn't get to sneak up on me. When shooting vertical shots, though, it is kind of tiring for my left wrist (which I broke a year ago, so it's now my bad wrist). But my little camera looked so grown up with it! And then it looked like a toy again once I put my fifty back on it. :D Oh well...Maybe someday I'll have something heavy and cool like that too.

The concept for this photo came to my mind when I first heard the song above, and I got the final vision on a sleepless night as I was rolling around in my bed. Heidi's friend, Johanna, was an awesome model and perfect for this image, so hats off to her and a huge thank you! And again, Heidi helped out and taught me about the lighting.

Fallen Angel

Ladies and gentlemen, here it is! As I previously promised, my dear friend Heidi and I really did manage to pull this image off. It's a remake of Luis Royo's painting, Fallen Angel (or at least we assume that is its title). I started making the background about two weeks ago, and tonight we stripped Heidi and created the main-star for the image. As I'm a complete noob in the studio environment, Heidi was in charge of the lighting and I did what I was told to do. 

This was definitely the biggest photography project I have ever been a part of, and I am so damn proud of the outcome. I can't even tell you...

The Photography Weekend - Saturday

On Saturday we went to Saarijärvi where I met Heidi's family and a friend, Ike. She agreed to model for us with her 25-year-old Icelandic horse, Aisuli. 

As the evening came and we returned to Vaasa, I ended up on "wrong" side of the camera as well.

The Photography Weekend - Arrival

This weekend has been dedicated for photography, learning tons of new stuff and, of course, having loads of fun. I arrived at Heidi's place in Vaasa on Friday evening, and almost immediately we started a photoshoot. She taught me how to make a basic studio lighting and after the shoot, she showed me some cool photoshop techniques. It's surprising how different and hard even it can be to edit portraits taken in a studio environment.
